Due to his father's job in the pipeline construction industry, the family moved often. They settled in Santa Barbara, and Randy started college. He received a scholarship to the well-known American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.

After graduating from the Academy, he was spotted in a play and Universal offered him a contract. Randy went on to land a co-starring role in Emergency!. During the course of the series he had the opportunity to direct several episodes.

After Emergency, Randy played roles on serveral daytime soaps and has stared in several movies including "Enemy Action" (1999), "The City" (1995), "Please God I'm Only Seventeen" (1992) and many others.
